Who are CTG?

At Chiltern Training Group (CTG), we are committed to developing confident, reflective and ambitious teachers. Through high-quality training, personalised support and immersive school experiences, we empower the next generation of educators to inspire minds, touch hearts and transform futures.

Our Story & Heritage

Formed in 1993 by Challney High School for Boys, CTG holds a proud place in history as the very first School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) provider to operate in England.

Over the past three decades, we have proudly trained thousands of teachers. Today, we operate as a vibrant consortium of approximately 120 schools across Luton, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

While our roots began at Challney, CTG’s central team is now based at the Redgrave Children and Young People Centre, co-located within the central Chiltern Learning Trust (CLT) offices. As part of a trust of 21 hard-working schools, CLT prioritises CTG as its preferred Initial Teacher Training provider. This close partnership gives our trainees unrivaled access to top-tier school placements at the very heart of their training journey.

Our Hubs

Our Initial Teacher Training (ITT) network operates under the Chiltern Learning Trust, bringing together four expert hubs - Chiltern Training Group (CTG), Bedfordshire Schools’ Training Provider (BSTP), The Shire Foundation (TSF), and our Milton Keynes partner, Two Mile Ash ITT (TMAITT). Backed by over 30 years of experience, our accredited hubs work in close partnership with schools across Luton, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, and Milton Keynes to deliver outstanding primary and secondary teacher training across ages 3 to 19.

Our Training Model

We believe the best way to learn how to teach is by doing it. Our unique 4+1 training model blends hands-on experience with academic excellence:

  • 4 Days in School: From week one, you are immersed in a real school environment, building confidence, managing classrooms and learning directly from expert practicing teachers.

  • 1 Day at the Training Centre: Spend one day a week with our central team and your peer cohort, reflecting on your experiences, learning pedagogical theory and sharing best practices in a supportive environment.
